What happens to The Vampire Diaries when The Originals leave?
Now that The Orignals has been picked up as a series, Mystic Falls will be absent three badass vamps. Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies), and Rebakah (Claire Holt), will be packing their bags and moving out of the little town of Mystic Falls to the Big Easy, with it’s culture, art, literature, and fabulous music, not to mention the supernatural community of vamps, werewolves, and witches! Will The Vampire Diaries and Mystic Falls have some new residents to replace them?
Once the Originals family leaves town, Stefan (Paul Wesley), Elena (Nina Dobrev), Damon (Ian Somerhalder), and Caroline (Candice Accola), will be left without a villain to focus their energy on. Stefan, Damon, and Elena seem to be wrapped up in their own little triangular world, but what about poor Caroline? Caroline likes to have fun, loves to plan events, and likes to fix things! So who will she have fun with now that Tyler and Klaus will both be gone. She won’t be in high school anymore, so there won’t be proms and dances to plan. She would probably rather kill Elena rather than fix her. Will she be a boat without a rudder?
Have no fear, fang fans! Julie Plec, our fearless leader and executive producer of both shows, has a solution that she’s really excited about! Crossovers! And there better be plenty of them to satisfy our hunger.
Julie Plec’s solution
[T]he greatest struggle as writers of this show is we like our villains to be on the good guys’ team more often than not. And we like our heroes to be villains. There’s not much separating the good guys and the bad guys in our world.
[I]f we could find the way to lighten Elena’s [role] in one episode [of Vampire Diaries], what’s to say Katherine can’t show up in New Orleans,” says Julie. “Certainly, what’s to keep Tyler from showing up to say his piece? Or Caroline, to pursue whatever nagging interest she may or may not have in Klaus if he’s still gone?
With Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah forsaking Mystic Falls, there will be more time for The Vampire Diaries writers to concentrate on the storylines for Stefan, Damon, Elena, Caroline, and whomever else is left after Silas’ opening of the supernatural veil before the season ends. Julie Plec also revealed that one character will be leaving for college, and there will be a lot of new faces. Will any of the new faces be on nastier villains than Klaus, Elijah, or Rebekah. One I can think of might be Silas. Julie has hinted that he might stick around to cause havoc and mayhem for our heroes in season 5. This would be great news for Raymond Scott Parks, who would then be elevated to a regular on the series. Silas may even make an appearance on The Originals, too!
Of course, crossovers between the two series will depend on the schedules of everybody, but Julie is hoping that there will be lots and lots of crossovers. After all, Klaus and Rebekah will want to check up on Caroline and Stefan to make sure they don’t need any special attention!
Meanwhile, we have The Vampire Diaries 4×21 “She’s Come Undone” episode to look forward to on May 2nd, which includes Klaus, and I’m sure Elijah and Rebekah, too!
