The Vampire Diaries spin-off, The Originals is set to debut on April 25, and Entertainment Weekly has a first look at the pilot.

The show looks absolutely gorgeous, as it was filmed in New Orleans in mid-March — over St. Patrick’s Day weekend, actually. The city had more than its fair share of revellers, Joseph Morgan (Klaus) tells EW, and not just for the vampire parties.

“[I]t was St. Patrick’s Day weekend over that period that we were filming in the hotel,” says Joseph, “so we’d suddenly have to stop production while an incredibly inebriated couple stumbled through this vampire party trying to make it to their room.”

It’s Klaus’s former protégé Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) who is responsible for the bloodsuckers’ bashes. Vampires have free reign in New Orleans, thanks to him. “Marcel’s got people to look the other way while they have these crazy hedonistic parties and do whatever they want,” says Joseph.

Executive producer Julie Plec fell in love with the city when she made a research trip in December. “We got to shoot in Lafayette Cemetery, which has been there for hundreds of years. We got to shoot in and around buildings that have been standing since the last great fire,” she explains.

Unfortunately it sounds like filming full-time in the city would be too pricey, and Julie is planning on having The Originals shoot in Georgia near The Vampire Diaries, should it get picked up. Joseph hopes they’d still be able to visit New Orleans a few times a year, though Daniel Gillies (Elijah) admits, “I think it would be damn near impossible to shoot in Louisiana for the duration. You’re dealing with a lot of drunk people a lot of the time.”

Gotta love the spirit (and spirits) of New Orleans!

This season of The Vampire Diaries is heading toward the finale, while The Originals chapter is just beginning. The two together will be like favorite books we never want to finish. It’s so exciting when one of your special shows that you just can’t wait to see every week decides to create a spin-off. It’s like a holiday gift, and this year the holiday comes early!

There have been so many twists and turns in the lives of Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Rebekah (Claire Holt), Elijah (Daniel Gillies), and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin), it will be interesting to see how they interact with Stefan (Paul Wesley), Damon (Ian Somerhalder), and Elena (Nina Dobrev) over the episodes before and after The Originals pilot airs on April 25th. In searching the Internet I managed to find some information about what happens in the pilot, and which also hints at some dire deeds that will happen leading up to the pilot.

The pilot/episode has Klaus, Elijah and Rebekah heading down to New Orleans to find Hayley. She headed there after backstabbing the whole lot back in Mystic Falls. They’ll stumble upon a pair of witches and Camille, a psych student. Camille’s into learning about all that is evil after a family tragedy, so of course these new folks in town will be her BFFs.

So it looks like our lovely Orphan Hayley did some stabbing of the trio, and maybe others, probably in the “Pictures of You” episode which will air on April 18th, the week before The Originals pilot airs. I also read that the “Pictures of You” episode might involve a prom scene. Extras on the set reported that at the February 21st filming there were boys in suits and prom dresses on girls, and also a limo. Rebekah, Claire Holt, was seen eating lots of muffins! Red velvet perhaps?

Michael Trevino also reported that he will make a final appearance before this season of The Vampire Diaries ends, and it looks like he might be accompanying Caroline (Candice Accola) to the senior prom where they will share a final dance before he leaves the series for greener werewolf pastures. If Klaus doesn’t get to him first!

Caroline and KlausProbably one of the finest "The Vampire Diaries" moments we've had lately was in Episode 13, "Into the Wild." Trapped behind a Bonnie-created invisible wall in the Gilbert house, Klaus still manages to drag Caroline over for a deadly werewolf bite. He does it to spite Tyler, but as Caroline accurately surmises, he's doing it because the human part of him still is capable of being hurt -- and feeling love. Klaus is close to the textbook definition of "monster," and yet through Caroline's eyes, we see the possibility of forgiveness and redemption.

One of the big fears that "TVD" fans have, then, is losing this incredible relationship just as it's gone someplace really interesting. Over at TVLine, reader Deska comments, "I just love the development of Klaus and Caroline's relationship. ... It's got to be one of the most beautiful and tragic one[s]. ... Wish both can save each other." Many viewers feel that the "Originals" spin-off will be severely lacking if Caroline doesn't have a part in it. Leaving Caroline Klaus-less on "The Vampire Diaries" also kills one of her most captivating storylines, potentially leaving her as a sub-character on future shows.

Will the threads unravel?Writer Plec's view of the show is that Elena and the Salvatore brothers are what "The Vampire Diaries" is all about, and the series' eventual end will focus on what becomes of those three. She may have underestimated the bonds that viewers have formed with the other characters on the show, however, and how invested fans are in the entwining stories.

As "TVD"-watcher Natalie points out, that crossover between the original and spin-off are vital: "'cause ultimately The Originals are tied to Elena & Co. That's why they are in the show, and if that interaction isn't in this new show, it might result in poor viewership." Both will appear in the pilot for The Vampire Diaries spin-off, The Originals, but according to TV Guide, that sexy scene wasn’t setting them up to become a couple. And Joseph Morgan tells the site that Elijah (Daniel Gillies) won’t necessarily be falling for the sassy werewolf, either.

"Because we were the first people cast — myself, Daniel Gillies, and Phoebe Tonkin — it's easy to assume that it'll be a love triangle with Haley and the two brothers, but it's something so utterly different," Joseph explains. "That would be a cheap shot to have a carbon copy of The Vampire Diaries, which [the spin-off] really isn't."

Maybe Hayley will be too wrapped in finding her family to cozy up with either Original brother. Yet she’ll still have to spend some time with Klaus. Claire’s take on Rebekah and Katherine

It’s kind of funny. They’re so similar in a way, but so different in a way. I think Rebekah likes having the power. She likes controlling situations. I think she’s liked to play that sort of vixen role in Mystic Falls, and Katherine has been the ultimate vixen, so I don’t think they’re going to be the best of friends, that’s for sure. 

As for the cure, Rebekah wants it. She wants to be human again, in spite of Damon’s warning that an ordinary life isn’t something she’d be happy having. Right now that’s her whole abiding mission. She feels it’s her destiny. But if she gets the cure, and finally has it in her cold undead hands, will she really take it? A thousand years of immortality and seeing all the changes that have happened in and to the world over the centuries, while she remained young and beautiful, can be addicting. So would she really do it? 

Claire’s thoughts on Rebekah and the cure 

Who knows, if and when she gets the cure, if that happens, if it comes into her possession, whether she’ll really pull the trigger. But I think she thinks it’s a really nice romantic idea. 

Where romance is concerned, we’ve all seen the sparks between Rebekah and Stefan. According to Paul Wesley, he thinks there’s real feelings between Rebekah and Stefan, but Claire thinks any relationship between them is doomed. But you never really know what will happen between the different characters and how their lives will intertwine when it comes to The Vampire Diaries universe. 

In Claire Holt‘s Zap2It interview she talks about working with her best friend Phoebe Tonkin on “The Originals” and what it was like working with two Nina Dobrevs – Elena and Katherine. Claire also confesses to what she’s looking forward to when her character Rebekah reunites with her brothers, Klaus and Elijah!

We all know Joseph Morgan, the controlling yet sensitive vampire Klaus of The Vampire Diariesand the upcoming The Originals. But Joseph Morgan is more than a handsome face with a hunky body, seductive voice, and sexy accent.

Joseph Morgan is a huge fan of horror, fantasy, Stephen King, and “The Walking Dead.” After discovering Quentin Tarantino at the age of 15, he was inspired to write his first screenplay. While studying at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, Joseph continued to write, participated in student films, and did scenes from his favorite movies in his acting classes.

After graduating he began getting roles in movies and TV shows, including “Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World,” “Alexander,” “Henry VIII,” “Immortals,” and of course “The Vampire Diaries” and soon “The Originals.” He helped produce “500 Miles North” and “Warhouse” and was actively involved in the creative decision-making of both films.

In addition to producing, Joseph Morgan also wrote and directed “Revelation,” his directorial debut. This 12-minute short, which debuted at the Atlanta Film Festival, has been referred to as a “gripping ride into darkness.” In additional to directing and editing, Joseph wrote the screenplay with Persia White, who played Abby Bennett on The Vampire Diaries. Persia stars in “Revelation,” helped with writing and editing, and also composed and performed the soundtrack for the short.

Synopsis of “Revelation”

A woman trapped in a post-apocalyptic situation questions her reality. As she secures her house against an unknown terror outside, she reflects upon the darkness that took her husband and changed the world as she knew it. But she is not alone. After barely surviving a brutal encounter that pushes her to her limits, both physically and emotionally, she is forced to leave the safety of her home, and is propelled towards a staggering conclusion that will change her forever.

Hayley and Klaus: How did we get here?

Whenever I think of Hayley I think of Sir Walter Scott’s famous observation, “Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.” Hayley seems to be deceiving everybody she comes in contact with in order to manipulate them for her own twisted schemes.

Hayley was thrown out of the house by her adoptive parents when she transformed into a werewolf for the first time and tore the living room apart. Ever since then she has been looking for her real parents. Can you imagine what that was like? She probably didn’t understand what was happening to her, and then the only family she had known tosses her out.

After being thrown out of her house, she joined other werewolves which eventually led her to Tyler, who had become a hybrid and sired to Klaus. Then she helped Tyler unsire all of Klaus’ hybrids so they could kill Klaus.

When she told Klaus the plan he was pissed, so he killed all the unsired hybrids and started a vendetta to kill Tyler, too. But Hayley told Tyler to run away so Klaus couldn’t kill him for unsiring all the hybrids, which were now dead.

She was also working with Professor Shane because he told her knew about her real parents. After Klaus killed the 12 hybrids, Shane told her her parents were dead, but after Silas was raised, Silas would raise her parents.

She is also attracted to Tyler and was probably jealous when she realized he was in love with Caroline. Klaus is also in love with Caroline, which is why she told him if he killed Tyler that Caroline would never forgive him. Katherine also promised to help her connect with her parents if she helped her find and get the cure. So she plays everybody against each other. A manipulative bitch that everybody loves to hate.

She’s been playing Klaus ever since she showed up with Tyler, partly maybe because she loves Tyler. Klaus, who also loves Caroline, knows that Hayley is working with Katherine, so he saves her to try and get information from her about where Katherine is.

So, by getting close to Klaus and making him think she’ll tell him about Katherine, she can also spy for Katherine to keeps tabs on him. That was a wickedly sly smile she had on her face when she realized that she had successfully seduced Klaus. A very twisted web of deception all the way around.

But things backfired on her when Klaus noticed the tattoo on her shoulder and told her he only knew of one werewolf clan with that mark, and they lived in Louisiana. So her parents were probably from that clan. New Orleans, Louisiana, is the backdrop for The Originals. Sounds like a perfect reason for her to go to New Orleans, either with or without Klaus.

It’s been a long, twisted journey. So where will they go from here?

The Originals, Episode 4×20 of The Vampire Diaries, Now Filming in New Orleans

It’s really happening! Yesterday The Originals backdoor pilot, episode 4×20 of The Vampire Diaries, was filming at 641 Bourbon Street, near Bourbon and St. Peter St. Last week, when filming of the pilot began, they were in the studio used for The Vampire Diaries in Georgia, and doing location shooting in Conyers, GA.

Joseph Morgan recently tweeted that he’s in New Orleans and he “loves it!” And one of the scenes must in a graveyard, based on this tweet:

Tonight we walk amongst the dead where a famous Vampire said his goodbye to the light

I wonder if he was talking about one of Anne Rice’s vampires! Or maybe he was talking about himself.

Although no official production stills of The Originals scenes have been released, below are some shots of some of the cast as they enjoy and explore New Orleans!

Looks like filming is going well and everybody is happy as they film The Vampire Diaries backdoor pilot of The Originals which will air April 25th. It’s just a few weeks away!

And don’t forget to vote for The Vampire Diaries as “Best Science Fiction Show,” Elena andDamon (Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder) as “Best Couple,” and Joseph Morgan as “Best Villain” in the TV Guide’s Fan Favorite Awards!
